Options Policy

Metro Nashville Public School District realizes that every child is unique and has different learning needs and interests. To meet the diverse demand of students, MNPS offers enrollment in Magnet Schools, Design Centers, Enhanced Option Schools, and Optional Enrollment Schools. Parents have options when selecting the school that best fits the needs of their child.

IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES


November 3, 2008 - APPLICATIONS SENT HOME
Applications will be sent home by all schools. This includes “pathway continuation forms” for Magnet/Optional students moving from elementary to middle or middle to high school.

November 6, 13, 20 December 4 -  “WALK-THROUGH THURSDAYS”
Parents can visit magnet schools during these dates.

November 10 – December 4 - MAGNET SCHOOL OPEN HOUSES
The open house schedule for each school will be announced soon.

December 5, 2008 - APPLICATION/PATHWAY DEADLINE
Parents return forms to the Magnet/Optional Office. This deadline includes all Magnet/Lottery applications as well as the “pathway continuation forms” for Magnet/Optional students moving from elementary to middle or middle to high school.

No New applications will be accepted after this date except for families new to MNPS.

January 10, 2009  - LOTTERY DAY
The Magnet/Optional School Lottery will be held on this date.

January 12, 2009  - CONTINUATION LETTERS
The schools participating in the lottery will send home a continuation letter. (This affects students who will be changing grades, but staying in the same school for next year.)

January 21, 2009  - ACCEPTANCE/WAIT LIST LETTERS
The acceptance and wait list letters will be mailed.

January 28, 2009  - DEADLINE - CONTINUATION LETTERS
Continuation letters must be returned to the Magnet/Optional School by this date.

February 6, 2009  - DEADLINE – ACCEPTANCE LETTERS
The acceptance letter must be returned to the Magnet/Optional Office by this date.
