"I was looking for something to do to get involved in the community, and then I saw We Are Family," Williams said.
That began what has resulted in the documentary.
She did movie on the side
Williams attended Elon University in Greensboro, N.C., to study film communications upon graduating from Hillsboro. While at Hillsboro, she took drama from Lorelle Reeves. In her senior year, she produced Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, one of the largest productions Hillsboro had done up to that time.
While attending Elon, she met Taylor. They shared many ideas together. When Williams graduated from Elon, she went to work at Discovery Communications in Washington. She now works for Brainbox Productions, also in D.C.
She and Taylor literally worked on borrowed time and borrowed equipment to get the film done. They borrowed the camera they used. They worked on weekends shooting. They shot whenever they could get the camera. Taylor did much of the editing since she was taking graduate studies at Elon. It took them about six months to shoot, and four to six months to edit. The documentary's running time is about 30 minutes.
"Elon has started a program called Elon Docs," Williams said. "That program helped us with some costs associated with the film festivals."
The film has only added fuel to the fire, lighting Williams who said she now is considering other proposals. She is now working on a proposal to do a documentary on sea turtles.
