Vision Program

The Vision Program is for students who meet the state standards and definitions to qualify for services for the visually impaired or blind and who require specialized instruction to enable them to function effectively in the school, home, and community. Ann Smith, along with a full-time Braillist and an assistant, work with the visually impaired population at Hillsboro. Students with visual impairments or blindness have to meet both the standard academic requirements in courses required for high school graduation, as well as acquire skills needed to access curriculum in different modes. Students may require instruction in some or all areas of the expanded core curriculum for students who are visually impaired. Examples include: concept development, listening skills, handwriting, study skills, motor skills, social skills, use of assistive technology and low vision aids, orientation and mobility skills, and Braille instruction.
