Important Information from Guidance Students who have college or scholarship applications that require information from their counselors need to get the forms to the counselors at least 10 school days prior to the deadline. Mid-year reports for students who used the Common Application need to be given to the counselors as soon as possible. Please attach a list of the colleges where the reports need to be sent.
Senior students who requested transcripts for college during the first semester will have their 7th semester transcripts automatically sent to those same colleges. There is no need to make an additional request. If you didn't request transcripts, or if you've applied to different colleges, you will need to come to guidance and complete a transcript request card.
Scholarship applications have been arriving in the Guidance Office. Please check the scholarship online to determine if you qualify for one or more of them. If you do, and if the list says to get the form from your counselor, please see Ms. Frame or Ms. Kock during lunch.
Registration for the 2008-09 school year will be coming soon. Make certain you know the graduation requirements and that you review your transcripts thoroughly. Being knowledgeable makes registration go more smoothly. More information will be sent as soon as the specifics are available.
Transcripts and credit verification forms will be mailed home to all students during the month of February. When they arrive at your house please look at all the information carefully including the spelling of names, addresses, birthdates, etc. Any mistakes should be reported to your counselor.
Eleventh grade TCAP writing exam will take place on February 6th with a make-up day on February 7th. This is a critical part of determining Hillsboro's stance on meeting the No Child Left Behind requirements and we need ALL 11th grade students to take this assessment and perform as well as they can on it.
Seniors and their parents who want help completing the FAFSA form for college financial aid should consider attending the College Goal Sunday program at either Watkins College of Art and Design or Nashville State Community College on Sunday, February 10th, from 2-4PM. There will be computers available to use to complete the forms and personnel available to answer any questions you may have. For more information, go to www.CollegeGoalSundayTN.orgor call (800)342-1663.

7th Semester Transcripts automatically sent: Transcripts including the first semester grades are automatically sent for all senior students who requested transcripts before the winter break; there is no need to request another copy. However, if a student hasn't yet requested transcripts for their college of choice he/she needs to do that as soon as possible. Please remember that the first five are free and there is a $1.00 charge for every request after five. Additionally, requests need to be made at least 10 school days in advance.
Mid-Term College Application Forms: All seniors whose colleges require mid-term reports from their counselor need to turn in the appropriate form as soon as possible. Mid-year transcripts will be automatically sent, this is only for students who used the Common Application or if their college applications have a specific form that needs to be completed after the first semester.
The Gold Page scholarship form: All seniors who are offered a scholarship of any amount need to complete "The Gold Page" form available in the Guidance Office. This form must be completed whether or not the student accepts the scholarship, including athletic scholarship offers from multiple colleges. The Board requires a report from each high school about the amount of scholarship money offered and this gold form page is how we collect that data.

Financial Aid Workshop If you are a parent/guardian of a student graduating in 2008 please mark your calendar for January 17, 2008, at 6PM for the Financial Aid workshop. Your child has almost made it through high school and will be heading off to post secondary opportunities, but now there's a need to figure out how to pay for it. This workshop can provide some answers regardless of whether your child will be attending the most expensive private school or more moderately priced state schools, or the wide variety of two-year and/or technical schools. We are hoping to have transcripts which include 1st semester grades available as well, but will not guarantee they'll be ready by then. This is a very information session and everyone is encouraged to attend.
Scholarship file updated Please check the Hillsboro website for an updated list of scholarship opportunities. You can find this only on the previous Hillsboro site, www.hillsborohs.com. For this purpose only, please disregard the notice about the site no longer being updated, the scholarship information is there. To find it click on "Guidance" on the left side of the homepage. Once on the guidance page you'll see a link that says "Scholarship Information." That information was last updated on December 20, 2007, just a couple of weeks ago. A few new opportunities have been added, some due dates have changed, and there's something there for almost everyone.
Cohn Adult Credit Recovery If your child was planning on graduating in May 2008 but hit a bump in his or her academic road during the 1st semester, Cohn Adult credit recovery may be a tool to help. Other credit recovery options for all students may be available at a later date, but Cohn Adult's registration deadline is January 11.
