During the 9th grade year students should:
* Earn at least 5 credits
* Take the PSAT
* Discuss appropriate diploma path with your parent/guardian and counselor
* Decide if scholar’s diploma and/or IB are appropriate options
* Learn how to calculate your GPA
During their 10th grade year students should:
* Earn at least 10 credits total
* Know your GPA
* Take both the PSAT and the PLAN
* Take all three Gateways in algebra, biology, and English at least once
* Make a final decision about diploma path (university, technical, IB)
* Make a final decision about scholar’s diploma status
* Review your transcript
* Attend all college fairs
* Meet with your counselor to register for the classes needed to graduate
During their 11th grade year students should:
* Earn at least 16 credits total
* Take the PSAT in the fall
* Participate in an ACT or SAT preparation program
* Take the ACT and/or SAT by June
* Know your GPA
* Attend all College Fairs
* Speak to college, military, and career representatives who visit Hillsboro
* Decide on college, technical school, or a job for post-high school plans
* Compile a list of colleges or technical schools that meet your criteria
* Start building your online college application file
* Meet with your counselor to register for the classes needed to graduate.
* Review you transcript
* Decide who you want to write your letters of recommendation and ask them
* Get involved in extracurricular activities and volunteer work
* Set up college visits and inquire about interviews
* Get a summer job to pay for college fees and testing fees
During their 12th grade year students should:
* Take the ACT and/or SAT again by October
* Starting in October, send in college and scholarship applications
* Attend a FAFSA workshop and file FAFSA by February 28
* Take ASVAB or do the Kuder career assessment
* Begin a career search if not attending college
* Have at least 19 credits by January
* Have taken and passed all three Gateway exams
* Have 22 credits by the end of May
