LADY BURROS MAKE HISTORY
For those of you who missed the State Championship game on Saturday, you missed the experience of a lifetime. Our Lady Burros took home the title, the first for a Metro team since 1980, and they did it in dramatic fashion.Clinging to a 4 point lead with 30 seconds left, we missed a free throw and Memphis Central took the rebound and promptly scored to cut the lead to 2.They put a suffering press on us and stole the ball immediately after we got it inbounds and scored again to tie the game. After gaining possession of the ball again, they hit one of two free throws to take a one point lead.We finally got the ball in the front court trailing by one point with 5.7 seconds left. After a time out, Jessica Pace then threw the ball inbound and got the ball passed back to her. What happened after that will live on forever in Hillsboro lore. She immediately darted through a double team, into the lane, and threw up a shot.As the buzzer went off to end the game, the ball danced around the rim for what felt like an eternity before it finally went in the basket and set off a firestorm of celebration by all the Burro fans as the Lady Burros won the State Championship of Girls Basketball!!!What an incredible year for those girls.Congratulations Coach Carter and Lady Burros!!
