Dear Hillsboro Family and Friends,
Hillsboro High Schools is committed to providing a safe and secure school environment. In addition, a proper learning atmosphere is essential for the education of each student.
MNPS Standard School Attire is an effective strategy to promote enhanced student appearance and behavior, which are key ingredients of a positive learning environment in which student safety and achievement are the highest priorities.
Due to the cooler temperature students are wearing what they can to stay warm in school as well as out of school. In an attempt to accommodate students while remaining consistent with SSA, we are taking a proactive role to communicate with parents and students about the dress code policy as it relates to coats, jackets, hoodies, and outerwear.
Although the MNPS dress code policy specifically prohibits hooded sweatshirts, no hoods are allowed on any other garment worn indoors. This restriction does not apply to outerwear such as raincoats, windbreakers and cold weather jackets and coats which may not be worn inside the school. The purpose of this memo is to communicate clearly to parents and students that jackets can be worn to school, but upon entering the building all heavy jackets and non approved jackets (hoodies included) must be placed in a locker. Long sleeve T-shirts may be worn as undergarments. They must be solid white, navy blue, pink, grey, green, or gold and may not display any writing, pictures or images.
The items allowed to be worn in school during the day is a single blazer, suit jacket, vest, sweater, or cardigan is permissible if worn over a shirt with a collar and short or long sleeves. The Hillsboro fleece outerwear and Hillsboro approved wind breaker are acceptable outerwear that students will be allowed to wear in school. Light weight jackets or fleece outerwear must be solid in color and match one of the approved colors (white, navy blue, pink, grey, green, or gold) at Hillsboro High School. In addition, a sweater in either a vest or a crewneck style may be worn over an approved shirt.
It is my sincerest hope that I have alleviated any confusion or uncertainty regarding the MNPS Standard School Attire Policy (SSA). If you have further questions, please feel free to contact any member of the Hillsboro High School administrative team at 298-8400.
Sincerely,
Roderick Manuel
Executive Principal
