Economics involves challenging students to look at the world from an economic perspective. Why raising the minimum wage can cause high teenage unemployment? Why inflation is a rule of life? Why some programs get dropped from the school curriculum? Why music companies today don't give new bands three or four singles before dropping them? Why cash advances on a credit card are a bad idea. Besides inquiry based learning methods, discussions, videos and Junior Achievement volunteers, below are some additional experiences students will be exposed to in this course.
Experiences in Economics
Job Shadowing
Students in economics will be allowed to participate in Job Shadowing. This experience allows Hillsboro students to "shadow" a person who is employed in a career that they are seriously considering. Personal Finance Course
Students will also get the opportunity to take a personal finance course on line at www.moneyskill.org and get credit towards their economics requirement to graduate. The curriculum for this course in personal finance was written by Dr. Lewis Mandell, professor of finance at State University of New York in Buffalo.
