Course Description and Purpose

The physical education program at Hillsboro High School is designed to meet the physical, mental and social needs of the whole student. Our primary objectives are to improve health and physical fitness, increase knowledge and skills of lifetime sports, and develop awareness of health practices. I will provide educational experiences that prepare students for lifelong learning. The learning and developmental goals are adopted from the Tennessee Department of Education Physical Education Standards for grades 9 – 12.

Course Requirements

Every student is expected to dressout and participate in P.E. class. If he or she is sick or injured, they must have a written note from a parent or legal guardian stating the reason for not participating.  If injury or sickness last more than three (3) days then a doctor's note is required.

Uniforms

Each student is expected to wear proper attire for P.E. class. P.E. uniforms are available to all students, at a cost of $20.00 ($10.00 for the shirt and $10.00 for the shorts). Sneakers are also required in P.E. class, boots, sandals, Crocs, dress shoes, flip-flops or slip on sneakers are not allowed.

Jewelry

Students are advised NOT to wear jewelry as a safety precaution. However if students chooses not to comply with this guideline then he/she is held responsible for any injury that occurs. Jewelry and other valuables should be locked in the student’s lockers. We cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.

Dressing Rooms

Students will be given 8 minutes to dress into their P.E. clothes and use the restroom. If students are not out and in their roll call spot within 8 minutes, they will be considered tardy. Lockers are available in the dressing rooms. Students are strongly encouraged to bring a combination or key lock to lock-up belongings.

Each day will be worth 5 point; the following is how points are broken down:
