IB Psychology Information
Prerequisite Courses:
A solid knowledge of writing is necessary. Assessments are essay and short answer. I recommend students either in their senior or junior year of high school for this course.
Average Amount of Homework Each Night:
This will vary. I try to give students advanced notice so that they can plan their homework as needed. For example, I let students know on Monday that the chapter must be completed by Friday. Some students can work every night for 30-45 minutes and others may work Thursday night for several hours. I guess an average would be between 30 and 60-minutes each night.
Personal Recommendation:
I find that older high school students can better understand the concepts discussed in class. They also have a background in writing that is vital for success in the assessments.
The IB Psychology course is slightly different than other IB courses offered this year in that the students are all seniors and they are working toward an IB Certificate rather than an IB diploma. The IB Psychology class can be part of a student’s schedule and the student not be an IB diploma candidate. So, the demands of the IB program haven’t been evident to me because my students are not involved in the diploma program.
